Trust and accountability

Editorial standards

Our Elected USA exists to make public records more useful without blurring the line between what a source says, what the data supports, and what still requires interpretation.

Primary sources first

Factual claims begin with an identified government dataset or primary record. Published reports link to their underlying sources, state the relevant date or reference period, and preserve the agency's definitions and limitations. A source's authority does not make every value final: preliminary, revised, estimated, observed, forecast, and declared data remain distinct states.

Original public value

We do not republish a government feed merely to create pages. Useful publication requires added organization, comparison, change detection, context, or reporting that helps a reader understand why a record matters. Search visibility and advertising are never substitutes for that value.

Human review before publication

Every public article must be reviewed by a person and must retain at least one primary-source citation before it can enter a published state. Health and safety claims, serious allegations, national-security subjects, ambiguous evidence, and low-confidence entity matches receive heightened review.

Use of automation and AI

Automation may collect, normalize, compare, and organize source records. AI may assist with drafting or explaining a verified fact bundle. Neither may invent a value, quotation, cause, relationship, source, or degree of certainty. AI-assisted text is held to the same sourcing, originality, and review standards as any other work.

Corrections

When an official source changes, the record may be revised without implying that the earlier value was misconduct. When our own published work contains a material error, we correct it promptly and preserve a visible correction or update history rather than silently rewriting the claim. Correction requests can be sent through the contact page.

Independence and conflicts

Advertisers, vendors, political actors, agencies, and data subjects do not receive favorable coverage, advance approval, or the ability to suppress accurate reporting in exchange for payment or access. Advertising is visually distinguishable from publisher content and is governed by our advertising policy.
